What is output device in computer and its types

What is the output device in the computer is a common question of who needs to use a computer device for his important task. Today almost every person is connected to a computer device. Such as Computers, laptops, Tablets, and other devices. To make these types of computer devices work properly, various hardware components are used. So these devices are output devices.

The computer is a popular electronic device nowadays. There are different types of devices in computers. If you are a computer user, you must have heard the output device’s name. If you put it a little more simply, you will understand well, but everyone has seen monitors, printers, and speakers. It is very important for all of you to know about Computer fundamentals. Because nowadays it is better for every person to have knowledge about input devices and output devices.

Outputs are various devices connected to the computer. But many of us don’t know what an output device is and how it works. So today’s post is for those who don’t know about it. Let’s know what an output device is and its examples.

What is the output device in computer?

The output device is some hardware component of the computer, which use various data values of the computer, information or instructions are given to work on the computer using input devices, and the computer gives us solutions through the output devices by processing that information.

For example, a printer is an output device. When we instruct the computer to print some information, as a solution the computer prints out that information as output.

The output device is some hardware, using which the computer shows the solution of our input as output. The output is a combination of two words. Namely

  •  Out
  •  Put

Here Out means outside and Put means keep. It means that the data processed in the computer is kept outside the computer through these output devices.

What is the main function of the output device?

The CPU does the processing after receiving the input. Then we see the result obtained through the output device. When we provide any input, that input is converted into a binary numbers and goes to the CPU and through the processing of that data by the CPU, the CPU again gives output in the binary numbers. That binary number is converted back to our understandable language and displayed on the output device.

Output devices allow computers to communicate with users and with other devices. This may include peripherals, which can be used for input/output purposes, such as network interface cards (NICs), modems, IR ports, RFID systems, wireless networking devices, and mechanical output devices, such as solenoids, and motors.  And other electromechanical devices.

Like input devices, output devices are not necessarily required for computer operation. However, without an output device, the purpose for which the computer is being used may not be successful. That is, if you do not connect an output device to the computer, you will not be able to see all the work you are doing.

That is, if the output device you are using the computer for is not available to achieve the result, then the purpose of doing the work may be defeated.

For example: If you launch a YouTube video and then turn off your monitor, the computer will continue to do all the work of playing the video but you won’t be able to see the video because the monitor is off.  If the speakers are turned on, you will hear the audio output.

What are the types of output devices?

What are the types of output devices
The types of output devices

Output devices can be broadly divided into four categories. Below are the types of output:

  •  Visual output device.
  •  Data output device.
  •  Printer output device.
  •  Sound output device.

Visual Output Device

It is a very important part of the output device. It creates a visual display and representation of data. Below I will explain the major visual output devices.

  •  Monitor.
  •  Projectors and.
  •  Video card.

Monitor:

The computer display or screen is called the monitor. The monitor is thought of as the central part of the computer.  It is the principal output device of the computer.  The monitor displays the information coming from the computer in the form of text, images, and audio video.

Different types of monitors are Cathode Ray Tube Monitor(CRT), TFT Monitors, Liquid Crystal Display Monitors (LCD), DLP Monitors, Touch Screen Monitors, Light Emitting Diode Monitor(LED), Plasma Screen Monitors, and Organic Light Emitting Diode Monitors (OLED).

Projector:

The output image or video from the computer is projected on a screen or wall through a projector. A projector is basically an optical device. It projects an image onto a screen. Almost all projectors produce an image by shining light through a small transparent lens. There are some new types of projectors that use lasers to project images right away.

Different types of projectors are Digital Light Processing (DLP), Cathode Ray Tube (CRT), and Liquid Crystal Display (LCD).

Video card:

Video cards are also a major part of visual output devices. A video card is considered part of a motherboard. Video cards enhance the experience of watching movies or images and playing games on the computer.

Data Output Device

GPS

Data device is the most popular output device in the computer. This device is used to display or retrieve information from the computer. Global Positioning System (GPS) is an example of the data output device.

Global Positioning System (GPS):

GPS is used to calculate the location of a device. It is an artificial satellite-based communication system. GPS can locate any fixed or moving object on Earth in any weather conditions. Its main activity is to determine the location.  One way communication system is GPS. GPS users themselves cannot transmit any signals to satellites. They can only receive signals sent from satellites.

Printer Output Device

Printer output devices are used to create hard copies and print any document. Here we discuss three types of printer output devices.

  •  Printer.
  •  Plotter.
  •  Braille reader.

Printer:

A printer is one of the most usual output devices. The printer displays the result as an output of the data which is given as input to the computer. This copy of output on paper is called a hard copy.

Plotter:

Another output device like a printer is a plotter. It can print diagrams, charts, graphs, etc.  It can even do 3D printing. Banners and posters can be printed through it. A plotter is used to print a large picture or graph.

Braille Reader:

A braille reader is usually an electronic device that helps a blind person read text displayed on a computer monitor. It is an electro-mechanical device. It has a flat surface displaying letters through round tiffins raised through holes.

Sound Output Device

The term sound output devices refer to any device attached to a computer for the purpose of playing sounds, such as music or speech. Here are three sound output devices that are a common part of the computer.

  •  Audio speakers.
  •  Headphones.
  •  Sound card.

Audio Speakers:

Computer users use audio speakers to listen to computer sounds. Speakers are one of the most important parts of today’s multimedia PC. Nowadays most users use external speakers to listen to audio. The audio quality of the external speakers is very good. External speaker amplifiers can be controlled manually.

Headphones:

Headphones are a pair of transducers placed near the ear. It captures the sound waves lost from the MediaPlayer Bari Sylhet and converts them into audible sound waves. Headphones are commonly used with walkmans, cellular telephones, CD players, virtual audio players, MP3 players, and personal computer systems.

Sound Card:

An internal expansion card is a sound card. The function of a sound card is to provide input and output of audio signals to and from the computer under the control of computer programs.

Conclusion

There are different types of output devices used in computers for all peripheral hardware and are connected to a computer by cables, or by wireless networking. Through this blog, we discuss some important output devices in computers and their example such as monitors, Projector, Printer, Audio speakers, Headphones, etc.
